If you are visiting Washington DC for the first time, the good news is that there are numerous things to do and see in this city. In fact, you cannot actually do all of it in just one visit. In order to have a well rounded trip, here are some suggestions that would make your trip fun and relaxing.

* Have a look at the Smithsonian – This is a good place to start. Here you can get a map and all the information you need about different museums found in DC ranging from arts to space exploration. It is recommended that you select only the museums that interest you.
* Visit national monuments and memorials – There are numerous national monuments scattered around the city. The best time to visit the monuments and memorials is during the night because of its lights attraction and it is less crowded at nights. You can also join a tour bus during the day with tour rangers who guide you through the tour.
* Tour the major houses of government – If you want to gain information about the country’s division of power, see and explore the U.S. Capitol Building, the White House and the U.S. Supreme Court. Booking in advance is needed.
* Walking around Georgetown – This is city’s historic waterfront that is filled with activity. The street is lined with stores and restaurants.
* Go biking along C&O canal – The city has a lot of bike trails. Hop on a bike and be relieved from the busy city life.
* Catch a show at the Kennedy Center – There are regular productions that are held in John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. They range from musicals to concerts.
* Listen to all types of music in Wolftrap Farm Park – This is a national park dedicated to performing arts. During summer, the concerts are performed outdoors.

* Hiking at the Great Falls Park – If you are traveling with family, have a picnic and enjoy the scenic view of the Potomac River.
* Seeing Mount Vernon – This is the recent addition to the educational places in Washington DC. It is a full day excursion to art galleries, museums, and the estate of President George Washington.
* Join walking tour of Old town, Alexandria – This is a small historic town found on the Potomac River. This is where you can find old houses, churches and museums. If you love antiques, this is the place to be.
